I have used this command to print text files from the command line. ooffice -p mytest.txt Maybe it works for .doc too? I have not tried. Although OpenOffice.org does not open up, it is clear that a lot of machinery is running in the background, so the limited laptop may still have problems -- better to ftp the files from the limited laptop to a more powerful machine and do the work there.
