Which application and version?
If it was not with the text application it might be issue 64467.
(Already fixed but not yet integrated.)

Just finished installing SCIM in Ubuntu 5.1. I can enter (pinyin)Chinese
in terminal, Evolution and Thunderbird, but every time I try in

Chinese is selected in Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages -
Asian. Never had this problem while entering Chinese in OO under
Windows. Any suggestions?
