Hm. Where does "apt-get install" install openoffice.org on your system? 
Mine is located in /opt/openoffice. So when you ran "apt-get remove", was 
the installation folder (here /opt/openoffice) deleted as well? You might 
need to do this manually, as root, then reinstall openoffice.org
