Yes, cells in tables can reference cells in other tables. The easiest
way is to just press "=" in the cell that will contain the reference and
then click on the cell that you want to refer to.
Also, I had the same problem as you. I got around it by creating a
single cell table in a frame in the margin and setting the frame to
non-printing. The first date field then referred to this cell and the
other date fields were set to adjust from that first cell as yours does.
