thanks for the suggestion. Also, in case anyone would like to know,
shortly after I submitted this question, Writer automatically notified me
that it was turning on its AutoCorrect mode, I guess it was tired of my
mistakes. Anyway, after AutoCorrect turned on NatSpeak's correction
screens worked.

Actually I would be interested in knowing about anyone who does use
NatSpeak in OpenOffice as our network administrator would like me to
switch from WordPerfect to OpenOffice on a regular basis.
