Hello, Dotan
Do you have a file called sofficerc in a location somewhat like the
following: "openoffice.org2.0/program/sofficerc"?

In a text editor, mine looks like this:
[Bootstrap]
Logo=1
ProgressBarColor=0,0,128
ProgressSize=-1,6
ProgressPosition=-1,-1

If I change "Logo=1" to "Logo=0", save the file and restart
OpenOffice.org, the splash screen will not come up anymore.

Thanks, I had these three files:
# locate sofficerc
/etc/openoffice/sofficerc
/usr/lib/openoffice2/program/sofficerc
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/sofficerc

I changed the line in each of them. The improvment is amazing. The
computer is still useless while the program is loading, but at least I
can continue to read what is on the screen. Also, startup time for
Writer went from ~30 seconds to ~10 seconds.

Thank you!
