I presume you are talking about the Draw component? Which version?

I've not noticed that Draw "tends" to group objects by itself. You can 
certainly group objects deliberately, though. If you have objects that are 
grouped but you don't want that, select the grouped object, then 
Modify|Ungroup. Perhaps tell us more of exactly what you are doing.

Are you modifying an existing object, or creating a new one? I'm using 2.0.2 
and when I create a new rectangular object it creates a rectange *unless* I 
hold down shift. Are you using the Rectangle icon, or are you selecting a 
square or rectangle from the "Basic Shapes" tool?
