That isn't true. A "merge and center" title looks exactly the same as a
"center across selection" title, regardless of the widths of the
columns involved. It's just two ways of doing the same thing, visually.
I think you may have misunderstood the suggestion that I made to Chuck,
which did not merge cells. It was a very simple suggestion using
centered text in a single unmerged cell "near" the centre of the column
range of the "selection", which can, of course, only be approximate. It
wasn't meant as a general substitute for "selection centered" text (or
whatever it was called).
