I have been using the gmane newsgroup for over a year, and I believe that any postings to it get forwarded to the mailing list. The problem is mostly that people post to the mailing list without subscribing and hence do not see replies unless the diligent responder looks at the headers and sees the "moderator" field and cc's them. Certainly I have seen responses to my occasional postings on the newsgroup, and coming from people who (I believe) get the mail only. That conclusion is based on the fact that some of them have advised setting up mail filters on your mail reader, which does not work for newsgroup subscriptions, at least in Mozilla/Thunderbird which I have used.
