Windows? Detach to a file and browse to it with Windows Explorer. Right click on the file name and select "open with", "choose program", highlight Open Office 2.0, check the "always use this program..." checkbox, and click OK. That should register the file's extension with OOo 2.0. From now on you should be able to open the attachments directory.
