in addition to the other answers, you must also set your User Data in
Tools - Options - OOo - User Data. At least enter your name.
This is because Writer now will open a text document at the page where
you last saved it, if Writer knows it is your document (so you must give
your name which will be stored inside the document's properties). If
another user opens the same document, it will open at the first page.
