Hello list,

I have created a document, which has certain chapters that do not want
to use the correct chapter numbers.
For instance:

1. Chapter 1
2. Chapter 2
 2.1 paragraph 1
 2.2 paragraph 2
 1.3 paragraph 3   <= wrong, should be 2.3

I cannot change the number 1.3 by hand, since it is set automatically.
I have worked around it by simply removing the number and changing the
title, so it incorporates 2.3 as the name of the paragraph. This of
course meant that I had to do ALL the remaining chapters and paragraphs
by hand as well. It was a relatively small document, so not really a
problem.

Now, I want to know how to handle this when it happens again. I caused
it without any effort from my side, so it is bound to happen again.
These chapters numbers are stored inside the file somewhere. I exported
the document to .doc format, to see whether Microsoft Office could fix
it, but the exact same issue persisted.
Is there a way to 'get into' the file, to change things like this when
it happens again? Any tool or something?

Thanks in advance,

Warren
