Congrats on trying Linux. I much prefer it.

You said you installed "Linux XP Desktop". I've never heard of that distro / flavour. Where did you get it?

Most Linux distros have a package manager that helps to install programs. But, you'll need to find the distro you have. What does it say on your log in screen?

Also, most Linux distors come with OOo pre-installed. Did you look in your menus?

I've just discovered that there are rpms and debs available so the
exact process depends on which of these you downloaded and which type
your distro is set up to use.
