I've encountered an odd problem at work with versions. A secretary came to me with this situation. She had a procedure in Writer that was versioned, with an initial version and then one updated version. It was fine on her computer. She saved the document to a shared folder, which is necessary so other people could access it. When she did, the versioning vanished.

This is by design.
A 'save as' makes a new document, thus without history.

I've once seen an issue about this, discussing possibilities to enhance/change/improve/whatever this behavior, but since I'm not good in digging Issuetracker, you might be willing to give it a try yourself.

Greetings,
