In addition to Richard's answer, I would mention that while OOo Calc
does open and save Excel files, it cannot currently translate Excel
macros written in VBA into Star Basic used by Calc. Star Basic has
functionality and a syntax which is similar to VBA, but they are not
directly interchangeable. I believe there is some development work going
on in this area.
