To obtain the relevant dictionaries, go to
File -> Wizards -> Install new dictionaries
and download the ones you want.

When I click on File > Wizards > Install new dictionaries, nothing
happens. Nothing at all. Nothing pops up, no error messages, just a
whole lotta nada.

This is OO.o 1.93.129 on Ubuntu-64 Breezy.

It's possible that your problem is the use of the Ubuntu version.

I use Ubuntu myself, and discovered that they hadn't included the Thesaurus. I therefore took the official download from the OpenOffice site, ran the RPMs through alien, and I now have a perfectly workable OpenOffice. I still had to install the dictionaries, but in my case, the wizard worked very well.

I understand that there's a correction to add the Thesaurus, but I couldn't direct you to it. If you wish to continue using the Ubuntu version, check with the Ubuntu forums.
