Thanks for your reply. I followed the directions in the manual in the link
you sent me, but still haven't gotten it to work exactly as advertised. The
pages are numbered now, but the introduction has the same series of numbers
as the main text and since it looked like the option was available to vary
the page styles, I tried to make use of that. I'll try again in the morning
to make that work -- I tackled this when I was rather tired. Is there no
"simple" function, where one can click on "insert page numbers" (the way one
can in WordPerfect and MSWord) and have the pages automatically numbered
without having to create an entire page style?
