The extension .mpp normally indicates a Microsoft Project file.
OpenOffice.org contains no module corresponding to Microsoft Project and
accordingly cannot read Microsoft Project files.
When faced with an unknown extension, OpenOffice.org provides the list
you saw which allows you to open a file that OpenOffice.org can handle,
even if it has a non-standard extension, if you know what type the file
is. But Microsoft Project files are not of a type that OpenOffice.org
can handle.
