Turn on the quickstarter.
In Tools ==> Options, select the top-level tree ( OpenOffice.org ), then
in the 'memory' section, make sure the item 'Load OpenOffice.org during
system startup' is selected. Also make sure you're using the latest
version of OpenOffice.org - there have been some impressive improvements
made to startup performance recently.
