Hi all,
In follow up to the prior discussions on the generation of EPS image
previews upon import using 2.0.2, a question has arisen with another
user in an offlist communication.
The issue is the following:
He has imported two EPS files, which were properly generated using R
(http://www.r-project.org/) which is a statistical computing and
graphics language that we both use.
Upon import on both his Windows and Linux systems, the files import
properly, but no preview image (not even the bitmapped image) is
generated. The old 'placeholder' frame is the only thing seen.
However, he sent me the same EPS files and upon importing them on my now
FC5 system, image previews were generated without problem.
So this begs the question. Same versions of OO.org, different results.
What's different?
I had him make sure that the "Preview" check box in the
Insert/Picture/From File... dialog was checked. This did not make a
difference, contrary to my assumptions and as I had noted in a thread
here previously.
I tried it on my own system and indeed, it had no effect on whether or
not a preview image was created during import.
I was under the impression that the image preview in 2.0.2 could be
generated even if no third party tools such as Ghostscript, ImageMagick
(convert) or similar were present on the system. That OO.org provides
its own image preview, though in this case, only the bitmapped preview
would be generated.
If the aforementioned tools were available a vector based EMF preview
image would be generated.
So, what is correct here and am I missing some other configuration
option in OO.org related to the preview generation? I reviewed the
Options menu tree and unless I am going blind in my middle age, I did
not see anything that would be relevant here.
Any takers?
Thanks,
Marc Schwartz
