Sorry to make all these suggestions as separate replies, Dick. Here's
another way to do what you want to do, with thanks to Peter
Hillier-Brooks, who is a proponent of this way of doing labels in
OOo.

I've knocked up a bunch of templates for various Avery label formats,
and when I want a single label in the middle of the page I just open a
text document from the appropriate template and click the rodent, OR Tab
to the required position.
