May I suggest you download the "Getting Started with Impress" chapter
of the Getting Started Guide? It is available for download at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/index.html. (This
is assuming you are using OpenOffice.org 2.0.x.)
You need to use the F11 key to open the Styles and Formating window.
In this window, you will see a list of styles. Title style only affects
the Title of the slide show, and the Subtitle style only affects the
Subtitle. Outline 1 through Outline 9 are the ones you will be working
with for the most part. They are called Outline because text on a slide is
written as an outline.
There is also a slide show file on my web site based upon this chapter
of Impress. It too can be downloaded.
