What OpenOffice.org (OOo) does have is and AutoRecovery save. (Tools >
Options > Load/Save > General. Check this box: "Save AutoRecorvery
inforamtion every" and then set the number of minutes between these saves.
While it is not quite the same thing as an AutoSave, it does save
everything needed to reconstruct the file for you in case of a crash.
Personally, I set mine to do this every 3 minutes. That way I know
that if something were to go wrong, I would not loose more than 3 minutes
of work. I also recommend in "Getting Started with Impress" to do a manual
save every time a slide is created that has a large number of elements in
it. This document is a chapter in the Getting Started Guide available at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/.
