Open Office is affiliated with MicroSoft?

I am using version 2.0 of OpenOffice. My problem is: the Impress
program that is used for presentations does not support my wma music
files. This seems somewhat ridiculous to me considering that Powerpoint
does support these and that a wma file is a microsoft affiliated file,
as is OpenOffice. Why is this? Is there any other way to get around
this other than converting the files? If I start my presentation in
PowerPoint and then load it on Impress to continue to work on it, does
that mean that these files will not play? Thanks.
