Oops, you're right, there's no "Don't Shift" option with "Delete Cell". I guess I was getting it confused with the "Don't Shift" option in "Paste Special". I didn't have OOo open at the time, and I was trying to wing it by memory. (It's sad that I know better than trust my memory, but I seldom remember when it counts. ;)

Still, it sounded like one of the Shift options is what the original question was really looking for, I hope I haven't confused the situation too much.

I see what you mean, Kevin. I did not consider the possibility of the
surrounding cells shifting into the space of the deleted cells. I don't
see the "Don't Shift" option you mentioned on 2.0.2, though. That would
be just like pressing the backspace key, anyway, wouldn't it?

If I understood the question, I think it *is* possible to "delete" a single cell, or any rectangle of cells:

Mouse select a range of cell; Right mouse click -> Delete cells; choose one of the "Shift Left", Shift Up", or "Don't Shift" options.

There is no way to leave a "hole" in the sheet, but if you choose one of the "shift" options, the cells you selected will vanish completely and other cells will slide into their place. Is this what you had in mind?

I am using Open Office 2.0 spreadsheets and have been able to delete only

It is not possible to delete any individual cell, but by selecting one
or more columns or rows (click on the column/row header buttons), then
right-clicking, you can select, for example, Row->Delete, or
Column->Delete, to delete rows or columns.
