I have tried to open several latex source files as plain text files in OpenOffice 2.0.2 (Writer on Mandriva Linux LE 2005). I mean simply open - NOT IMPORT - them. Just as Writer opens several other plain text files (and source code files for C etc.). However, every time I try to do this, I get a message "General Error: Input Output Error" and the file does not open. This happens only with LaTeX/TeX source files (i.e. marked .tex) not with any other file. I have opened several files, whose formats are not known to writer without importing them without facing this problem. I tried to rename the files without the default extension (.tex) and the files opened! But this is not really an option because a lot of my source files have the .tex extension. How can I get writer to ignore the .tex extension and open the file as if it were any other file
