OPENOFFICE

RE: HELP!

11 June 2006

I have installed OpenOffice 2.2, as an upgrade from OpenOffice 2. I now too, always receive "Error 1316" every time I try to load it, though previous OO0 files are successfully deleted(?). In any case, what is the easiest way to get rid of all of prior versions, if people cannot delete them? All I can delete has been deleted by using three different Uninstallers, and or by deleting out item by item. More importantly, likewise, I cannot re-install, without this Error Message re-appearing, all the time, then it "rolls back". I have many components on my new new computer, a Dell Optiplex, with MS XP Home SP 2, Intel 4, ... including Panda (2006 Internet Security) security which I can turn-off, Ashampoo WinOptmizer Platinum 3, etc.

By way of note I have searched variously on-line. Here is an example only, as relates to this issue
from GOOGLE - "Results 1 - 10 of about 22 for "Error 1316" OpenOffice." That's
the number of entries on Google, about this error.

I have also seen - Resources for Microsoft Office - "OFFXP: Error 1316. Setup Cannot Read
from .Msi File". I have run the MS Installer Cleanup Utility (as such I can delete now delete
the older versions, and a message comes up saying "Valid Installers, installed... "); and
MSI Installer.

This is the message, at issue.

"ERROR 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: D:\windows\installer\openoffice.org 20.msi" (I have MSI installed correctly. I do receive updates daily, as appropriate from Microsoft.
As is still set out here in 'OOo Mail Reader', on-line.

"Mail reader I have downloaded OpenOffice several times and each time I go to install. It
gives me the following error message: > > > > ERROR 1316. ...

From: www.openoffice.org/servlets/ ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=121649 - 13k - "

I have found no answer that will work, to date 11 June 2006.

On the OpenOffice.org website (http://www.openoffice.org/) I could not open also the
"Download OpenOffice.orgSelect your language and your operating system, and off you
go. 1. Select your preferred language... 2. If Java Runtime Engine (JRE) ... 3. Select a
download site ... "

That is, while the menus did 'pull down', they just clicked automatically shut,
that is without I (me) being able to click on them for English, JRE, ... and,
so on. Thereby, I was not able continue to install from the OOo website, which
downloads.com (among others) links to, as its source for the download/s.

From: http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.2/index.html

Is it possible, these may be corrupted (also)?

"OpenOffice.org 2.0.2 (stable) Installation Sets (2.0.2) 2.0.2 Source and Solver (Output Tree)"

From: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html

What can you tell me about version 2.0.3 (experimental) and or the latest
verson; and or ways the safe ways to update?

I am aware of - md5sum. I have a Downloader Manager, plus a disk too with OOo
2.0 (*there is no problem in the original source, NetGuide, February 2006).

I ask you to look at the information on-line on the official OOo website; and,
or update it, so on, logically. It maybe a local problem - or mine alone.

I appreciate very much that this is a free program. Likewise any positive
assistance welcome. THANK YOU!

PS (I am in Australia).
