Hi Jimmy,
 It is true that the user interface is not always as intuitive as it can be. 
However there is one concept that is worth learning in OpenOffice.org and it 
is called "Styles". Once you have a grasp of that then you can understand 
where the UI design came from, and you will find it much easier to find the 
utilities you need.
