I just want to confirm what you have found and add that it does get put
on the clipboard (i.e. select whole table then Ctrl+C) because it can be
pasted (Ctrl+V) to elsewhere in the document, but not into another table
cell. It can also be selected and then ctrl+leftbutton+dragged (copied)
to elsewhere in the document but not another cell. Selecting it and then
just click+leftbutton+drag also copies it, which is inconsistent with
normal use, which should move it IIRC.
