How did you change the alignment attribute? Whether text is left, centred, etc 
is an attribute of the paragraph style, and applies to the whole paragraph. 
So far as I know, it cannot be applied to a single line _within_ a paragraph.

If you overwrote that attribute for a single para, it should affect that para 
only. But if you changed the attribute in the para style, it would affect all 
paras with that style.
