Ben -- This is something that people know about. I have seen it discussed about before in the forums. I don't know if it is being fixed or not, but it can be a problem for sure, especially if you aren't watching for it. If you would like you can file an issue for it.
I'm sorry but this is the first time I am aware that such an issue exist after being in the industry for the last 15 years. I had been using microsoft all this while and only started using OpenOffice 2 months ago. Actually I'm not saying the way Excel works is ok. In fact I am worried why Excel allows a label or text formatted cell to be included in a computation. Thats the big issue here. One could be finding a needle in a haystack analysing what and where went wrong. In this context I am saying Openoffice Calc is correct in its concept. And I am not worried if people in OO forum know about it but I am concern that millions of Excel user who are not aware of this. The usual remark will always surface.... "Ahhh its Calc non compatibility... it was ok when operate under Excel but just doesn't work in Calc." Heard of that one many times.... The best way to have problems such as this evaluated is to file an
issue. Issued are used to both report defects in the software and to propose that new features be added. For instructions on how to file an issue please see:
I don't know if you are referring "defects" on Excel or Calc?? I think Calc shud continue to be as it is. <http://openoffice.peschtra.com/tips/ooott_web_iz_file_issue.html>
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It is important that you file the issue to ensure reproducibility with your examples.
Anyway... YES.. I shall highligh this in the appropriate forum. Thanks Peter. Cheers, Ben HTH,
