Hi,
It certainly is an oo question. oo appears to save everything I compose read-only rw-rw-r, no matter what the os dictates.
I'm the very opposite of a UNIX geek, but I've learned the following already: you can set the permissions to be used for new files using the umask in your start script. OOo honors that umask settings when you start OOo from the bash (or whatever) shell. OOo does not use the umask settings when you start it using a launcher, or when it starts automatically, for example because you clicked a link on a Web page. So I always close such an automatically started OOo as soon as possible, and I never use the launcher icon, just to be sure that I do not try to save any files with the wrong umask.
