Hi all,

There seem to be no help documents or faq concerning how to remove a hyperlink in a text document. One can only edit or change it but not remove the hyperlink.

Really? Which release of OOo do you use? In 2.0.3, have a look at
Help > Contents > Index > Search term > hyperlinks;deleting

Thanks. I have oo2.0.2 which came with the latest ubuntu(dapper). Have found what I was looking for after your reply. Had to install the help files which are not installed by default.

Earlier I had been trying to get this information from http://documentation.openoffice.org/ but could not find it from the howto or user guides or faq.

Incidentally the deleting of hyperlinks is not intuitively at the same place in the menu. Unlike MS word, where all the hyperlink related options are in one place in the menu, in OO hyperlink related options are in 3 places (edit menu, insert menu and format menu --where this option is actually hidden and cannot be deciphered easily)
I use Ubuntu myself, but the version of OO that comes with it is invariably lacking. I used the one that came with Dapper for a very sort time, but they've done weird things with the 'save' screens, among other things.

I've taken the official version, and used the instructions here:

http://www.reallylinux.com/docs/oo2install.shtml

To install it in my version of Dapper.

My opinion, not necessarily guaranteed to make your life easier, happier, or anything.
