Interesting. I use AOL and I haven't experienced any problem like that, and I've subscribed and unsubscribed a couple of times (when I've switched from the regular list to the digest and back, and unsubscribed totally when I was going to be away on vacation for a week or two). I haven't had any difficulties at all. Unfortunately this doesn't help solve your problem, but I really don't think that it's an inherent limitation to AOL.
