Thank you for your advise. Based on your advise I have been able to
get openoffice.org write to run on my ibook G4. The most useful part
of the Set Up write up was Appendix I. However I know that there is
a spread sheet, and presentation package, and data base support to
openoffice. I can not see these other elements in open office.org
on the MAC. Do they work on the Mac and how can I get them to work
on the MAC.

Problem is that whenI double click Openoffice.org very little
occurs. On the top menu bar Openoffice.org, File, and Edit appears.
Under File is a faint Use Start Screen. Under Openoffice.org all I
can do is quit. Under edit all I can do is to call up the Script
Editor. This is a far cry from the PC version which I successfully
down loaded and offers alot of capabiility.
Follow your Install notes I tried to get the X11 appilacation
working. I have Tiger 10.4.7 running. It seems that X11 is
installed but there is no application that will launch X11. I tried
to go to the Apple web site and loaded a 10.3.9 versions of
X11User.pkg. This did not work because the computer said that there
is a later version of X11 installed. Going to the Tiger Install disk
and installing .X11SDK.pkg put it in the Library in the file called
receipts. Your install directions are clearly wrong. At this point I
am totally lost. I have not been able to install Openoffice..
My computer is an ibook G4 and I am running OS 10.4.7. I downloaded
Openoffice using FIREFOX brouser.
There are two documents to help you get started with MacOSX:
1. http://documentation.openoffice.org/setup_guide2/2.x/en/
SETUP_GUIDE.pdf
2. http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/
Howto_OOo_2.0_MacOSX_english.pdf
Both explain about X11.
