how do you print postal barcodes on envelopes? ..

Have you read the 2.0 User Guide from
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals ? I recall this discussed in
Chapter 3 of the Guide.

I have been reading doc since way back in release .8 or something like that.. Unlike most posts to the list I am one who reads before a post.. I don't ever recall this being discussed in Doc or on this list. I re-downloaded the doc and still didn't find anything. Can you point me to a page perhaps I am missing this.. The barcode has be be keyed off of the zip code and somehow automatically generated.. It also needs absolute placement on the page.. I have never been able to figure it out.. hence the question.. This is not a standard formatting question..

Thanks in advance.. Fred
In the OpenOffice.org 2.0 Users Guide it's at the very end of chapter 3. Or search for "POSTNET".

It should also be in the list archives if you search for "barcode".

Things to note:
Barcodes are nothing more than fonts. Find them, install them and use them just like any other font. While the technique described will be similar for other countries, the procedure described is specific to the US POSTNET system. The barcode represents a sequence of digits. You need to generate that sequence from the zip code, or have it stored with your addresses in your database or wherever. Placement is up to you when you format your envelope or address labels, etc.

There have been some OOo macros that generate barcodes. There is also a commercial font foundry that provides OOo macros with their barcode fonts, which includes POSTNET. A google search should find them if you want to go that route.
