Greetings, I started seeing a problem with OOo 2.0.3 apps on a new Windoze XP (Home) SP2 Media Center AMD box. Double- clicking on OOo icons would briefly show the hour glass, but nothing would start. I noticed several postings to this mailing list regarding the same problem and wanted to give you what information I can regarding this issue.
Right after pulling this new PC out of the box, OpenOffice was the first thing I installed (okay, the third, right after Firefox and Thunderbird ;-) This was the first time I've had occasion to use OOo, and was very impressed, to say the least. After installing other apps was when I first noticed the problem where OOo failed to start. After reading other postings on your Website I went to the Add/ Remove Programs area and clicked on the [Change] button. What do you know! There was a "Repair" option. Selecting this option and waiting for the process to complete successfully fixed the problem! I'm not sure if this is definitive, but this may be the issue: I had FTP'd several Word and PowerPoint docs from a Windoze Command window and neglected to set transfer type to Binary. However, I did not notice this at the time. I then tried unsuccessfully several times to open a PPoint and a Word doc file, and got several small "Operation Aborted" dialog boxes. It was right after this that I first noticed the fail-to-start problem. One other thing to note. I had just installed Roxio and burned a DVD of all the stuff I'd downloaded w/out rebooting the PC after the install as per the Roxio install dialog box. It was a corrupt PPoint file on the DVD that I tried to open, and then a corrupt Word doc, just before I first noticed the problem. I hope this helps track down the issue. Thank you so much for your time and effort to provide such a quality alternative to <another vendor's> apps. ;-) As I understand it, you are mostly (all?) volunteers working on this. Keep up the great work! Chris --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
