It seems my problem lay with the fact that I tried saving previous work carried out on a MSWorks spreadsheet to an org 1.1.1 thinking I would save time by not having to re-enter old data. Are you absolutely certain? I ask because unless you have selected the "Edit file" icon you have effectively declared your document read-only.
