The main question here is if you are using Open Office on both ends?
If you write something in Open Office, make sure you use Open Office
to open it. If you are using Open Office on both ends, then the file
may have been corrupted during transmission. Open Office files are
nothing more than zip files; you can do a quick check by renaming the
file to something.zip and see if you can unzip it.

Something to keep in mind along the same lines is that no matter what
word processor you use to write your document, there's not guarantee
that your audience will have the same word processor, or that the
document will look the same when they view it. The best thing to do
is send out the file in a standard format.

If your audience is simply reading the file use PDF. It guarantees
that the document will look as you intended it to anyone who reads it.
You can create the PDF right from Open office; go to File -> Export
as PDF ...

If your document simply has some light formatting, use RTF. All major
platforms can usually read RTF with tools they have out of the box.

Finally, if your document contains heavy formatting, it's best to use
the same application (version and everything) on both ends.

I downloaded Open Office and have used the writer at
home and really like it, but I have a question. I
have tried to attach a couple of the documents I have
written to e-mails and open them on a different
computer, but they wouldn't open. With Open Office,
can I save documents and e-mail to people so they will
be able to open them up and read them?

Thanks for your help
