To do what you want to do requires the receiver to have
OpenOffice.org (OOo) also installed on their computer. At least that
is how it use to be. Since OOo version 2.0.0, the file format has
been changed slightly so that it conforms to the open standard for
office files. (MS Office does not yet do so.) There are now a number
of office suites which will now also open OOo files including
password encrypted files. So, the people to whom you send this
information would have to have one of these office suites to open
your encrypted file.
The new open standards file format does contain a very robust
encryption for password protected files. It is highly unlikely that
anyone will be able to open one of your password protected files
without the password.
