“…you can patch the settings in the configuration file manually…”
Can anyone tell me how to do this (under Win XP)?

e.g. Your OpenOffice.org data files are stored in d:\data\openoffice.org so in Tools/Options/Paths you have set 'My Documents' to be d:\data\openoffice.org and under that path you have created your template directory hierarchy.

Why bother with patching the configuration file?

...I remember an option to force 'Open...' to open files at the
top of the document, rather than at the insertion point of the last
save...

What I remember reading is removing your name from the Personal
Information in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > User Data. The
poster had not entered his/her name in User Data and then wondered
why every document always opened at the top of page 1. When the name
was enter, this problem disappeared.
I am guessing that removing the name should recreate the problem
that poster had. But that problem is what you seem to want. Let us
know if this works.

Dan -- Yes, it works. I know nothing about coding, so I have no idea why (change how the 'save' command works by deleting the user data? -- yeah, right), but it works.

Thanks also to Cor.
