Subject: [users] How do you remove unwanted paragraph breaks with "Edit,
Find and Replace" in OpenOffice.org Writer?
You get a lot of short lines with the Paragraph Symbol revealed when
"View, Nonprinting Characters" is turned on after the contents of an
e-mail message are pasted into an OpenOffice.org Writer document using
"Past Special, Unformatted text." How can I remove these line breaks
using "Edit, Find and Replace?" This is one of the features I especially
liked in WordPerfect because it was so easy to do and there must be an
easy way in OpenOffice.org Writer.
In Find and Replace select More Options and check the box labelled Regular
Expressions. Then, in the "Search for" box type a single $ sign. Leave the
"Replace with" box empty. Hit Replace. The line below the cursor will be
joined to the end of the line the cursor is on. If you want a space between
the two, put a space in the "Replace with" box.
Don't forget to uncheck Regular Expressions when you are finished. I'm not
sure if OO remembers this from one session to the next but if it does and if
you forget to uncheck it you might see some rather unexpected behaviour.
