I think what your friendly Dell sales/helpdesk person was saying is
that OpenOffice (OOo) is seen as a replacement for MS office. It is
not the same thing as Excel but there is a spreadsheet component
called Calc. This does close to exactly the same thing (and in some
things does it better) as Excel.

If however you already have Office 2006, and you don't need to move to
another office package, then my recommendation (unfortunately) would
be to stick to MS Office.

If however you do need something other than MS Office OOo can be
freely downloaded from www.openoffice.org. You do not need to register
to download.

Dear Open Office,
I just called the Dell On Call station and they told me that I should come to
your website and figure out what kind of excel that we have. He clued me in
that we do have Microsoft 2006 and I was just wondering if that was the same
thing as the excel that we have. I really do not think that is the answer to my
question, because it does not sound like an excel program. the computer that we
have is DIMENSION E510. Also do we need to register into your webpage to get
the scoop? The reason why I'm asking this question is because my mother is
being a treasurer for my dance company. I would like you to e-mail me back at
this e-mail address with anything you know.
Thank you for your time.
