A little more information would help us to help you.
Firstly, centring operates on paragraphs, not individual lines within
them, so could you confirm what it was that you actually selected? Could
it be that your 2 pages of text is actually one large paragraph?
Secondly, whilst it is probably irrelevant in this case, it generally
helps to mention the operating system on which OO.o is running when
reporting problems.
Finally, your symptoms are highly unlikely to be caused by a bug, more
likely a misunderstanding about usage of the product. A fault in
something as fundamental as paragraph centring would have generated
enough heat to power the planet before now, had it been faulty:-)
