I'll try to answer... Your question is specific to 'Trados' and/or 'Wordfast': *whether* these programs can handle OpenOffice documents, *how* they do it and *how to setup them* to work with OpenOffice (and not how to setup OpenOffice to work with them). So, unless your question is specific to OOo... Trados user's manual, support or user's list, or even some translation newsgroups may be more appropriate places to look at or ask. According to Trados website, SDL Trados 2006 Freelance supports OpenOffice document types. Not sure about older versions - you'll need to check. (As far as I know, Wordfast is a Word macro, it needs Word and will hardly ever work with OpenOffice;) In case your Trados version cannot handle OpenOffice files directly, and you don't want to upgrade: a) open them with OOo, save to .doc, translate the way you used to do with Word, open with OOo again and save back to .odt (.ods -spreadsheet and .odp - presentation files can be converted to .xls and .ppt respectively, and translated with Trados, too). Depending on the documents, you may lose some formating during the conversions, so this way is not recommended. b) There are other translation tools that handle OpenOffice files directly. Google for e.g. Heartsome (more features, commercial, haven't tried), or OmegaT (simple, open source, I've been using it happily for a year) - they can be used on any OS (you wrote "In Windows I had to..."). There may well be others, too - since Open Document is a standard format. If you decide to change your translation software and use your existing TM's, you may have to convert them to a format accepted by this software (e.g. 'TMX' format which is industry standard for TM exchange). And please, whenever asking a question, specify versions of your operating system and applications - you may get better answers.
