OK.....so, this is basically a known issue. Does it have to do with
shortcuts in general, network shortcuts, shortcuts with certain characters?

Also, pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by "mounting the remote
filesystem"?

Just to let you know. There is a problem with accessing files in the
manner you describe. There is likely an issue for this which you could
locate and vote for. I recall the workaround is to mount the remote
filesystem.
