Just visited oooforum.org and the most recent topic in the Calc forum is

describing SUMPRODUCT() and an additional one: DSUM().
You have to be shure how the used functions work in detail because
spreadsheets are very tolerant. What happens if there are duplicates? Do
you get an error if there is some text-value in a numeric column due to
some typo? Most spreadsheet-functions ignore text or treat it as zero.
Well, if we where talking about your private list of DVD-movies I would
not care about inconsistancies or wrong lookups in a "spreadsheet
database". But you mentioned "sales" and "transactions".
