You use different page styles for those pages that should not have page numbers. Switching page styles may not be obvious even though you have styles. I encourage you to read http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/OOo2.x/user_guide2_draft.pdf so you get the page switches correct. If you need an example of a document that does this, please see http://documentation.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList and choose one of the templates.
