That's the usual crux with people knowing only their MS universe: You
can open dBase files with MS Access, so it must be that you need MS
Access to open them, right? Wrong. dBase is a (historic, nontheless
wide-spread) database format. Since it's pretty simple, there are
zillions of applications able to read/write them. Amongst them,
Microsoft Access and OpenOffice.org Base.
It appears that OpenOffice.org for the Mac 2.0.3 cannot open a dBase IV style
file.
I was able to open it, however, with the trial version of Excel. Another
problem that
may force Mac users away from OpenOffice.org. I did open an IZ for this.

I probably should keep quiet but since M$ Access doesnot even EXIST for
the Mac, would the fact that BASE can't open some files really stop
someone? I would think a bigger game breaker for Mac users would be
connectivity to filemaker pro databases
