The install file OOo_2.0.3_Win32Intel_install.exe does not offer "Custom installation" as an option.
Correct. This file will unpack the installationfiles to a directory of your liking.

After that you must start the actual installation (it may even start automatically). In that process you can choose to 'Custom Install' and install OOo to any directory you wish.

Thank you all for your help. My problem was rushing into things and failing to notice that under "Custom" you could change the installation directory. All I noticed was what component to install or not install, went back and clicked "Complete" expecting the installation directory to appear later on...! Of course once installed neither "Modify" nor "Repair" had any facility to change the installation directory. I had to "Remove" and start again. A case of more haste less speed!
